i had a repairman come out to look at it and told me it needed a seal and bearing kit. it would fill up but would not wash or spin. he told me it was not worth replacing the parts and labor. is that a true assesment

I highly recommend you to call different repair company with reputation of knowing what they are doing.

Parts to do that job run ~ $ 60.00 + a clutch if needed. Labor is ~ $350.00 or zero if you are mechanically inclined. There are several excellent articles on this website by dh1200s that can walk you through the entire process. I had never worked on a washer before this and was able to follow the instructions and use of the provided pictures to do the job myself. Please buy the service parts from this website to help support this repair forum....:)
