Gene,
I finally and reluctantly took your advice and replaced the pump motor.
It didn't totally make sense to me why replacing the pump would solve it, but I did it anyway and it WORKED. Our machine works just like new again.
FYI, when I pulled off the original motor and compared it to the new one, I noticed that the impeller and shaft on the old motor, was extended out from the winding housing about 1/2". I was able to push it back in with ease.
Also, I did this right after a load finished and found the motor to be quite hot. Not too hot that I couldn't hold on to it, but hot enough for concern.
I don't know much about electric motors. I thought when they went bad, they just quit. This one seems to have been dying a slow death.

I'm new to this forum. I'm very impressed. For the last 16 years I've made my living by repairing Janitorial equipment ( vacuums, buffers, burnishers, shampoo machines, etc.) My whirlpool duet won't drain. Fixing this problem seemed to be a very daunting task. I want to thank every one of you for your questions and answers. Especially the service manual link and how to get the parts.

When you start to clean it out after removing the front cover, have the shop vac handy to suck up any water and it will also suck out any gunk that is stuck in there. Ours was clogged with those laundry sheets that have both the detergent and fabric softener on them. Will never buy those again!

I have done everything I know to resolve my issue. I cleaned the filter, then replaced the drain pump. Still working sporadically. When I try the drain setting, the machine starts to drain, then it seems that there is a problem with the pump creating a suction issue. The black hose from the drum to the filter gets sucked into itself like there is something creating a vacuum. It feels like there is a ball of some sort in the hose right below the drum. I think this is causing the vacuum.??? Of course, I can't take the pump back because it is an electrical item. $125 down the tubes. :(
Ideas??? Any help is greatly appreciated!

Very likely there is a foreign object(s) floating between the outer and the inner tubs which are blocking the drain hose. You may want to use the instructions posted by trnash9 on the previous page of this thread to inspect them.

BTW, ANY parts ordered from APP can be returned even if they were installed.

I'll give it a try. From what I've read, I guess I'm gonna need a band clamp to replace the spring clamp that's on it now for the re-install.

After taking the drum to filter hose off I see the problem: looks like 3 washer/dryer sheets!!! The worst product ever!!! Taking the hose off was no problem. Putting it back on from the front was an almost impossible task so I took the back off and had it back on in no time. The spring band clamp was not a problem to get back on either. No need to get a new one.

I should have came to the forum before spending the $125 for a new drain pump I didn't need. Oh well, I guess I have a spare in case the new one bites the dust. :o
