I have a Amana Dryer that takes a long time to dry. Typically we use the timer on the dryer because the automactic Dryer option has not worked well in a while. We typically dry clothes for 60 minutes then turn the dial back on for another 20-30 using the timer option. When I open the dryer during the cycle it seems to get hot. I have took the dryer a part and cleaned all the lent out but did not see a big problem with buildup. My dryer only has 1-2 feet before it exits the house with no bends. What parts are recommended to check and what other parts are recommended to replace while I have it apart (thermal fuse?)

It should not be the thermal fuse, which would cause the heat to shut off completely, but put a meter on it anyway as long as you are there.

I think the three most likely problems are

1. The heating coil, check for any breaks or weak spots, and test it with a meter also, but it is unlikely this is the problem.

2. The thermostat. This is the most likely problem, the thermostat is turning off the heating coils at prematurely low temperatures. Unfortunately I know of no way to test it other than purchase a new one and see if that fixes the problem.

3. The Fabric Selector (heat selector) on the console. This may be malfunctioning and telling the machine to use a lower heat level than you have set if for. Again, not sure how to check it other than replace it.

Click on your model number and you will get to exploded diagrams of your machine and the parts, part numbers and cost.

Good luck and please post what happens.
