my freezer seems to be running normal except that the bottom started to thaw and a large amount of frost build up on the top three inches most of it being on the right side if you were standing in front of it. It is a older one but dont want to buy a new one if i can drop a few dollars in it.

Check if the door gasket is tight and there is no air leak.

Most likely there is the sealed system problem. This is the job for a trained technician.
