Clicking is often the compressor trying to start but for some reason cannot. Its overload then trips, the compressor cools down, the overload resets and it tries to start again. There is usually a hole in the cover that allows you to do this without taking anything apart. Perhaps you are stuck in a defrost cycle. Take the rear cover off and see if the click is coming from the compressor's start device.
