I located a repair manual for Maytag washers but it does not list my particular model. The pictures of the motor etc. look like mine. Is it a fair guess that the assembly and disassembly would be the same?

Kinda boils down to choices: we're doing our own repairs to save money and maybe enjoy diy-ing. How long does this Maytag model last with these diy repairs? Is the Brake tool worth the cash when we have to repair this same thing in another 5 yrs? What's your time worth? Will you sell your own manufactured Brake tool for less than the going $110 bucks? Otherwise, collect the cash or 8-32 screws and diy it. Replacing the washer even with a used one costs me time/ money but the clothes will wash for what another five years. Limits to this diy-ing.

Just checked w/ my wife; 12 years is the current life of your Maytag Atlantis washer. Reason why she spent this amount of money via Lowes is to never have to buy another washer. Maytag used to be a lifetime investment but that ended w/ it selling to (is it?) Whirlpool? Manufactured to be replaced. Ok how come we can't just DIY it instead? As per this forum, the symptoms I now have are 3-4 and for the replacement cost currently via Lowes are they over the $450 in repair costs this is going to run? Likely just get that new model and enjoy a new Maytag for the time/risk of repairs and something else failing. Gee, it may be time for the Control panel to go out. Uhmmm, doing the math, buying new over time, uhmmm, yeah, time for a new one.
