I have a Frigidaire Freezer roughly about 5-7 years old. I came home to find a nice large puddle of water in front of the freezer so I emptied everything out and dethawed the freezer. When I turn the unit on, it starts but then shuts off. You can hear the compressor turn on and then off in about a minute.
I do not think that the compressor stays on long enough to produce cold air or if it is just shot. I would appreciate any information that you could provide. I thank you in advance for your expertise.

To verify a compressor drawing high current, you need to monitor it's current with an amprobe. A high current, over 10 amp will trip the klixon overload. Confirmation of an overload generally is determined by the compressor restarting after a few minutes.

Internal varnish buildup, mechanical problems, or electrical/burnt windings, or ingestion of non compressables.

I just diagnosed it for you, to confirm compressor failure you need to monitor the current with an amprobe.

My refrigerator did stop freezing /cooling, we had to empty everything out. After two days, it came back on and is working perfectly!!! That's why I asked for the troubleshooting flowchart. The compressor must be fine, it's probably one of the control devises like the thermostat. I just need the order of trouble shooting instructions. Thanks for your help.

You may want to start your own post using "Post New Topic"
especially if your model number is not the same as the original poster.
Your symptoms do sound different re: the compressor was not coming on.
My guess would be that it is the control thermostat.
A flowchart will not really help you since the problem is intermittent.
If it happens again just move the temperature control knob up and down a bit, if it fires up replace the thermostat. A fairly common problem with them is sticking open.
Personally I would just replace it.
Throwing out a bunch of food is just too expensive to not take a gamble on it being the problem. |

All the original syptoms pointed to a bad compressor. If you would have given us more data, we could have helped better. A lack of voltage to the compressor during failure whould have steered us toward a bad cold control.
