1. Double Oven upper convection, lower conventional, both set on conventional (no convection).
2. Both Set On at 350 deg.
3. Upper display "says" at 350 quickly (8 min) - external oven thermometer reads 335 at 16 min after starting oven.
4. Lower oven display "says" at 350 in 15 min - external oven therm at 348 deg
5. After 10 more min, upper over display at 350 but external therm at 370!

What do you thing has failed or is failing??

Thanks a lot!

PS Baking in the lower oven is more uniform than in the upper oven.

Which oven thermometer(s) did you use?

Did you use 2 thermometers or just one? Where did you place thermometer inside the ovens? Did you place them in the same position?

You can try to adjust the oven temperature as described in the Owner's Guide (page 8).

Gene.

Gene, I used a single store-bought thermometer by placing it first in the lower oven in the center near the door. Then I moved it to the upper oven in the same relative position and watched it fall from the 350 deg mark (as stabilized in the lower oven) to 335 then to 370 degrees the upper oven. Any inherent error in the thermometer would be the same in both ovens. I had adjusted the calibration months ago but now the upper oven is exhibiting these signs of errant behavior. This was first noticed a few months ago when my wife was doing some cake baking that was not baked properly in the upper oven but OK in the lower one.

Any more thoughts???

Thanks, Bruce

Hi Bruce,

I would like you to redo this tests. Do one oven at a time from the scratch. Place the oven thermometer in a middle of the cavity, not by the door. Do not open the door during the test. Check the temperature at least 15 minutes after the display showed the set temperature and you've heard a beep.

Post the results.

Gene, here are the results of the testing sequence.

Lower Oven
start displ=0; therm=0
+8 min displ=350 & beeped; therm=320
+5 min displ=350; therm=350
+4 min displ=350; therm=340
+7 min displ=350; therm=355 (16 min after displ reached 350)

Upper Oven
start displ=0; therm=0
+6 min displ=350 & beeped; therm=270
+5 min displ=350; therm=320
+4 min displ=350; therm=340
+7 min displ=350; therm=340 (16 min after displ reached 350)
+2 min displ=350; therm=355
+6 min displ=350; therm=345

Thank you, Gene, for your insight.
Bruce

Hi Bruce,

I don't see anything wrong with it. I'll say that both ovens work as designed.

Thank you, Gene.

I'm curious, though, as to what you think is causing the upper oven display to show "at temp" when in reality the oven has several minutes of heating truly be at the set temp?

Thanks, again,

Bruce

Hi Bruse,

As long as the control senses the oven SENSOR temperature, it turns off the heating power. The real air temperature inside the oven is lower because it takes time for all metal parts to heat up too.
