My freezer started making a buzzing and clicking sound right after it shuts off. It also seems to be cycling too often. I timed the cycles at 7 minutes on and 7 minutes off. About 20 seconds after it shuts off, I hear a buzzing sound for about 4 seconds then a click. I can hear the oil moving and the freezer is staying cold. Could it be the starter relay?

That was my first thought. Changing the thermostat setting didn't change the way the freezer is acting. It has been set at the lowest setting of 1 for nearly all of its life.

If you can, monitor the voltage to the compressor. Any voltage to the compressor soon after shutoff, will make it hard starting.

Thanks for the input. It is the thermostat. When the overload starts buzzing, I can tap the thermostat with a screwdriver handle and it stops.
