Hi we have a Maytag performance 3000 series front load washer and dryer.

They are close to 2 1/2 - 3 years old

The washing machine has started throwing a F11 code
It happens in any cycle we run

It appears the washing machine starts fine, but seems like when it gets to the mid cycle or spin/drain cycle then the F11 code comes up

I've read that the MCU might be the culprit ? If so, what is a ballpark $ on this part, and is it something that I could repair myself ?

Thanks so much.

So frustrating... we had an old washer and dryer that lasted for YEARS... then decided to buy this more pricey Maytag, and am disappointed this stuff is happening after only 2 years.

The first two things to do are to check the pump and clean it out and to check the wiring going to the control unit from the motor control unit. It's not that this will likely fix things, but it is a free repair that might fix things.

If you still have the problem look under the top or inside the lower service panel for tech notes. They will tell you the bad news about the F11 error code, which is that it can be several things. It will give you a way to test the components, but in the end you will probably end up replacing the electronics one by one until you fix the problem.

That's the way Whirlpool designed this mess of a machine.

Hello,
Thanks for you quick response...
Ok... I took off the front kick plate, and found the tech notes
I ran the diagnostic test, that the tech notes said to do
It showed me the last four error codes, which were all F11
(which refers to the MCU)

So, i unplugged all connections to the MCU, and reconnected them
Then I ran the diagnostic test,
it locked door (c00)
it filled by cold water (c01)
it did a distribution ssytem is set to prewash position (c02)
it filled by hot water (c03)
then it came to c04, and all it did was making clicking noises (drum never moved)
it then did c06 drained
then it went to c07 and the drum did then spin
then the test was over

I ran the test again

and this time, it went thru all tests perfect...

So it's seems that the MCU is intermittent in acting flakey !

Ughhhh...

Any suggestions on where to get a good deal on a new MCU ?

Let me know any thoughts you have... I really appreciate the feedback
Thanks
Aaron

If you purchase the part from this site (no, those of us who reply are not employed by APP) and the part does not fix the problem you can return it, so I strongly recommend you get the MCU from APP.

Let us know how it turns out.

cool! i didn't realize that! thanks for the info!

i ran the diagnostic again... and it performed all sequences fine
i just put a load of laundry in to try it .... seems like so far it's working

(but... who knows.... since it's been hit or miss)

if it pops a f11 again.... we'll be ordering..

just from looking inside the bottom of the washer... with the front kick panel off... can i replace that MCU... just from removing that front kick panel... i saw a few wires, that looked like then went clear to the back ... but i might be able to reach them

thanks :)

Take off the back and you can get to the MCU if you need to replace it. Hopefully it will be necessary.

Great. with boards sometimes that is all it takes, the factory connection may not have been good to start with and it gradually worked itself loose enough to cause problems.

well, i spoke too soon....
the next day the dang f11 code reappeared... same spot in the cycle as before... so not sure what to do now

what's odds of calling Maytag and complaining... even though we only had the 1 year warranty on it... it's only 2 maybe 2.5 years old...

just makes me sick to pile in a $200+ bucks on the crazy thing already

i'm gonna try to disconnect MCU connections one more time... just for craps n giggles...
