originally saw sparks from control panel. left us with no spin cycle.
I replaced the timer. The machine will click on for load and rince, but I get nothing on spin. What's up?

The control panel was loose from the machine. Wife asked me to reattach, but I told her to use it as is until I got to it. She began seeing sparks from back of the control panel when she began a load. I observed sparks as the cycles changed. I replaced the timer, but now washer fills and does NOT agitate or spin. It just sits there full of water. Just like before, but without sparks.

Hi.

First of all check all the wires inside the control panel.

Next, check the continuity of the lid switch. Less then 1ohm between Gray and White with the lid closed. You can install the jumper wire for the "life" test.

Next, check continuity at the water level switch contacts V to T. With tub full of water should read less then 1 ohm.

The lid switch Part number: 8318084
Part number: 8318084

The water level Part number: W10339251
Part number: W10339251

Here are the breakdown diagrams and Replacement parts for Maytag MTW5620TQ1 AUTOMATIC WASHER | AppliancePartsPros.com

Thank you. Post the results.

simon, sorry but I don't understand how to install jumper wire for "life" test. I don't know what you mean. Can you guide me?

Hi, Firefly.

Get a 5in electrical wire 14 gauge or so, strip 1/4 in off each end.
Unplug the washer.
Incert jumper ends into lid switch terminals with Grey and White wires.
Plug in washer and start the cycle.

To do all this you need to open the control panel.

Thank you.

Simon.

simon, I have followed your instructions and jumped the lid switch. Everything seems to be working. I will asume this means I need a new lid switch. I would also like to know if we could do a couple of loads while waiting for the part, or am I risking further damage? Thanks for all your help.

Hi.

I don't think that you will damage the washer more then it's already, but there is a very serious risk of getting hurt by reaching into a spinning tub.Consider that.

Thank you.

Simon.
