I have a gas dryer that when the start button is pressed, it will start sometimes and sometimes it will make a humming sound. If I spin the drum a little by hand (not very easy to do) and then press the start button, it will work.
I have also removed the drum, belt, and Idler arm, so that the motor has no resistance and it exhibits the same behavior. If I take and turn the motor shaft while pressing the start button it will come on.
Any ideas? Thanks

The motor needs replacing. OR The centrifugal switches on the motor are jammed up with lint. OR The centrifugal activating assembly is broken, also requires motor replacement. |
