I have a neighbor that is disposing of his 6 year old Kenmore Side by Side. He said it just "blew up" and quit working. I figured it was worth a stab at fixing for a garage fridge.
I plugged it in last night and let it run. The lights come on and the interior fan runs. The compressor does not run and the fan by the lower coils does not run. I followed some links and ran the tests with a multi-meter outlined in some previous links.
I took off the start relay and the start capacitor. I tested the motor pins and they tested out fine. I do not know how to test the relay and capacitor. I'm hoping it is just the relay. I don't want to buy a new one if it is something else.

Hi.
Do you have a 120VAC to the compressor? Check between two wires from the start relay.
Post the results.

The two wires that plug into the start relay I assume? The red and light blue wires read 1.765 volts.

Hi. Remove the control cover in the refrigerator top left and locate the adaptive defrost control. With the evaporator fan running check for 120v at J4 - J10. No voltage - replace the freezer cold control. The freezer control Part number: AP2151607
Voltage present - Check for 120v at J6 - J10. If there is no 120v - replace the ADC. The defrost control Part number: AP4909015

Have 120 between the red and blue on one side and between the blue and the green on the other side. Red to green is nothing. Red to green is 2.2 volts sometimes.

Unfotunately , I don't know where the lead numbers are. The wiring diagram link on the Sears parts website does not open for me. There are three leads on the control. The red and blue (black maybe) are on one end and the green/yellow is on the other. Ametal lead comes out of the back.
If you have a link to a wiring diagram, that would help a lot. I do not know the Frigidaire model equivalent, or that would help too.

Hi.
I'm afraid that you are measuring voltage at the cold control instead of the defrost control board. The defrost board is located behind the cover on the left top, not the front.
Jump the two wires from the cold control (not the green)if nothing change - replace the defrost board.

Voltage between the two conductors was zero. Voltage for the equivalent wires on the refrigerator cold control was 120 or so. I take it that I need the freezer cold control part listed above. Should I jump the hot wire and freezer control output to see if the compressor switches on?
