I had a repair company replace the igniter twice on my oven. The original problem was that the oven would intermittently not start and would often not restart to maintain temperature during a long bake cycle. I can not believe my luck is bad enough that I had two bad igniters installed. The new igniters only helped for a short period of time. The problem seems to be getting worse. Is it possible there is another problem. According to the diagrams for my range model, the only other part could be the valve. Any suggestions.

Assuming the igniter is new and good, the problem could be a bad gas valve as well as a bad control board.

If the igniter glows but gas does not come out then the problem is a bad gas valve.

If there is no power to the igniter and/or the gas valve then the problem is a bad control board.

I am having a problem with my GE ovens temperature. I turn it on to 350 to bake a cake, and it goes to 400 or more. So I have to bake cakes at around 225. Someone mentioned to me that there was a way to adjust the temperature under the oven knob. One problem is I don't know how to get the knob off to check it out. I recently had to replace the igniter and the flame tube. The flame tube actually had a whole rusted in it where the igniter was! I don't understand this at all! :confused: Can someone now help me with the oven temp problem? :rolleyes: Could the problem possibly be the thermostat?

Hi Gene, sorry forgot the number. It is: JGB523BEA1WH I am beginning to think maybe this is problem model. What my Dad referred to as a lemon. :D

You can adjust your oven temperature, using the oven knob. The knob just pulls out and it has the two screws on the other side.

Unfortunately you can adjust the temperature this way only within 30° range. In your case looks like the oven thermostat is gone bad.

i replaced my gas valve because withe the oven control off. the flame took a long time to go off and their was a gas smell. now when i turn on the oven to just warm. the flame is way to big .covering all of the bottom of the oven , is their a way to adjust it or is something else wrong with another part i didnt change anything else , just replaced th valve with a new one. it did fix the gas smell though

You probably have to adjust the orifice. In order to provide most accurate advise we need the complete model number of the oven.
