I guess that we are the lucky ones. Since I replaced the fridge thermistor for the second time in 7-2009, all has been fine since then. You have a great solution, but maybe you are making up for a thermistor that doesn't swing enough for temperature changes. I also ordered a spare evap coil assy. It came with another thermistor and heater. Hope I never need either one.
We may be the few that have beat this fridge and not put it out on the curb.

Jay Hi Jay - I've been following both yours and BajaDean's posts here lately because my Samsung RS2578SH has just started doing the same thing. I believe you both have struck upon the root cause and solution for this malfunction, although you've gone about resolving it (slightly) differently. Although, BajaDean's resistor placement is a brilliant and innovative fix, leaving a static/unchanging resistance of 2.2 ohms in series with the thermister may possibly adversely effect the circuit over time. I prefer your solution of replacing the thermistor itself. My refrigerator has worked correctly since 2005, so my thought is that some part has recently malfunctioned to cause this problem all of a sudden. From both of your troubleshooting, I'm willing to go with the thermistor has failed. My question to you is do you have a part source and part number for the thermistor you replaced? Also, is it the same one in the location described in BajaDean's posted photos? I don't have the parts/wiring diagrams so I'm unable to track it myself. Looking forward to your reply with hairdryer in hand!!!:)

Looking forward to your reply with hairdryer in hand!!!:) Hi Again - Anticipation....!!!! :) I got creative and searched on the Samsung parts website (J&R). Samsung had a part listed as a "refrigerator defrost temperature sensor"; It really doesn't get any better than that! Another parts site had a photo and, yes, it's exactly the yellow wired thermistor BajaDean describes in his photos and I can see mounted exactly the same in my fridge. I took your advice and ordered Qty 3 of them just in case. For anyone else reading this, it's part# DA32-00006W. I was able to get it online at $5.09 ea. With shipping (UPS) it was $24.89 for Qty 3. (Google it for the best pricing) My closest appliance parts store had Qty 1 for $23.00 + Tax. Samsung lists it online for $10.00 + shipping for Qty 1.... Go figure! I defrosted again with a hair dryer this afternoon. I didn't fully reassemble the panel in anticipation of getting the part in next week. Looking at its location behind the rear panel, it looks to be a no brainer to replace. Cut the 2 wire ties, mount it into its plastic holder and plug it in. Replace the 2 wire ties to make it look professional. Trash bag ties will work fine. I'll follow-up again after I receive the part and it's been installed for a couple of weeks. Wish me luck!!!!:D

odiggy, Looks like you did well ordering the parts. I got mine from Vance Baldwin for roughly the same price. You did good ordering spares just in case one fails. Maybe the latest batch of thermistors are improved and don't fail like the originals. I would remove the thermistor and do the ice water test and see if the resistance changes while you are waiting for your order to arrive. Good luck. I hope this fixes it. It is a bad experience that we all have gone though with this Samsung junk. What year is your fridge? Jay Yes, bajaDean and I are talking about the same part at the top of the evap coil inside the white plastic clamp.

Jay Yes, bajaDean and I are talking about the same part at the top of the evap coil inside the white plastic clamp. Ok. I received my part on 27Mar2012 and installed it w/o incident. At that time the evaporator coil had a 1/2 week of ice build-up on it since my last posted defrost, so I thought it a good idea to leave it there to see how things work out. It's now exactly 2 weeks later and I've not had any flashing temps on the front panel display indicating continued problems! The fridge actually sounds normal again; not running continuosly as it had been doing prior to the thermistor replacement. I'm confident it's repaired successfully!!! I'll post again if the problem returns. But for now, and to everyone else having this issue who reads this; replacing the thermistor listed in my previous posts seems to be the fix. Btw, the one I received had the black colored head and the updated part number, so I believe it is the improved replacement found in Europe as mentioned by another post much earlier in the thread. Estimated cost if I had only ordered Quantity 1: $11.00 and 1 hour labor. Good Luck!!! :D PS: In answer to your question Jay, my Samsung fridge is about 6 or 7 years old. I hope to get at least that much more use out of it!

I hope to get at least that much more use out of it! 15April2012 (3 weeks later) The fridge continues to work correctly w/o any further incidents of frost errors in the fridge section! I've noticed the filtered water is not as iced cold as it was during the frosting errors. This is another indicator that the automatic defrost is, once again, kicking in every 24 hours as it's supposed to! :D

Hi there, I am part of the unlucky ones, with issues with the evaporator defrosting of the refrigerator side. I have a RS267LASH.
I checked the heater, and it looks OK at ~ 91 ohms. Regarding the thermistor, I measured ~7000 ohms, which corresponds to 16F, and I assume that was correct. I need to check it more thoroughly by putting it into ice. Anyone knows how I can take it out of its plastic wrapper that attaches it to the copper tubing?
Also, I am not sure about the fan. I think it works with a 10 VDC voltage, but when I try to run it on a 9V battery, nothing happens... normal?
I would very much like to understand the wiring a little better and I believe Jay1028 gave a link back in 2009 for the RS267 service manual (sam0060.pdf). That link is disabled now. Anyone knows where I could find that manual? I see the SAM0096 everywhere, but can't find it for the RS267. Thanks for any suggestion.

It's cheap and I bet it's you root problem. See my previous posts.
