My Maytag dryer will not shut off. I replaced the dryer timer, p/n AP4043083. The dryer turns on and off manually, but the timer does not rotate and the dryer will run until manually shut-off. Is it a bad timer or is there another part that needs to be replaced?

Hello. I need a bit more information. Does the dryer do this on all settings or just the automatic settings? If this only occurs on the automatic settings you need to check the exhaust duct to insure there is no crimps or clogging of the duct. It also, (as per the manufacturer), cannot exceed the equivalent of 25 feet. Basically this means that each 90° elbow is the equivalent to 6 feet of straight ducting, so you have to count each elbow as 6 feet then add the straight parts to that total.
Now, if the dryer does it in timed dry also, I would test the temperature switch [AP4043505]. The other component which passes voltage to the timer motor is the electronic temperature control [AP4043070]. The best way to test this component is, with voltage on the unit, it needs to pass voltage to the timer motor. Any component that gets voltage to it and doesn't pass it is normally the problem component. Sure hope this was helpful and have a great day!
