The washer washes and goes through the spin cycle, but the clothes are still wet. My wife said she heard a large bang when this first happened.

The machine through the cycles and it only spins at 110-120 RPM, where the repair manual indicates it should spin at 640 RPM.

Pump drains OK
No blockages
Belt appears to be OK. Doesn't appear to be slipping.

I have tested it two times with different answers:

First time it spun at 120 RPM, then when it was supposed to spin at high speed, the tub stopped and the motor kept spinning.

Second time it spun at 120 RPM, then just stopped at the end of the cycle. No high speed portion.

It doesn't appear to go into high speed mode, so that would lead me to a switch.

The large bang would lead me to think it's the brake spring that broke.

The washer not spinning at high speed and stopping leads me to think it's the transmission.

Can anyone help me with the right diagnosis to know the real problem?

If the belt and the pump are good and there is nothing wrong with the drain then the problem most likely is a bad transmission.

Here are the break down diagrams and the parts list for the Maytag washer Model MAV408DAWW

You also could have a slipping clutch due to a worn snubber, check for white shavings on the bottom of the washer.

Hi

I came across with this thread and it is the exact same problem with my maytag washing machine. I have a quick question for you. What it the transmisson and what part number is that or what it is. Maytag model: MAH 400 AWQ.
Thank you.

Chiko,

Your washer is a front loader and there is no transmission used in a such washers.

Did you replace the control board (http://forum.appliancepartspros...0awq-5-10-years-old.html)?

HI
I did replace it last year a new control panel. I was thinking it is old and perhaps dying so that means no longer working?

Your control board sends voltage to the timer motor, if no voltage, your control pc board is bad. To prevent future failures, I would put a 1000 joule surge protector on the outlet to the washer.
