Sounds like the problem is a bad bearing. The fix is to replace the outer tub assembly. - The outer tub assembly Part number: AP4567773

Hi Gene, Thanks for reply. Does the tub only spin in wash and rinse cycle? Can only the bearing be replaced? How difficult is it to replace the outer tub? Should these washers without a agetator make more noise than usual? Bob

This bearing is a part of the outer tub and can not be replaced separately. The outer tub does not spin. The transmission shaft goes through the central seal/bearing. This job requires complete disassemble of the washer.
Gene.

Gene, Seems like problem is in gear box. How does wash plate come off?

Gene. Gene, I figured that out. Purchased outer tub assembly to fix bad bearing as advised. I do not see any bearing, just seal like on old one. Should there be some type of bearing?

Gene. They make bearing replacement kits, and I have replaced several bearings already. I am a Sears Repair Tech, and am unsure if the kit is available online... it should be. I can look in my van and include the part number. Although I would not recommend this task for anyone that lacks experience with taking things apart.
