Maytag Neptune Electric Dryer Model #MDE3000AYW purchased in 1999.

Worked fine in the morning, but in the afternoon but it would not start.

1. It has power.
2. The door switch works.
3. I suspected the push-to-start switch, so I opened up the rear top panel and got my voltage tester out and I have 120V to the red wires on one side of the switch.
4. I disconnected the switch and put my continuity tester on each contact. I have continuity between the two contacts when I hold the button down, but no continuity when I release the button.
5. I reconnected the switch and jumpered the two red wires that connect to contact #1 to the yellow wire that connect to contact #2. Still won't start.

Is that normal behavior?
Are there any other tests I can try?
Could it be the Drive Motor?

Check the two thermal fuses in the motor circuit

If this is the culprit clean the inside of the unit including the blower wheel.
Also clean and check your vent system
