I have a Whirlpool 18.2 top freezer refrig. Recently, it stopped cooling and I had the overload relay capacitor replaced. The compressor came on right away and started cooling, but it stopped cooling a day later. What's wrong and what should I do?

two things to check , cold controll ( tempature controll ) and defrost timer.

well first is the compressor running ? if not is the condensor fan motor running? (motor next to compressor)

if both are off then check the two mentioned above

My technician said compressor is dead, so I'll be buying a new refrig. I've heard Whirlpool is the best brand, but my old refrig was a Kenmore/Whirlpool and lasted only 6 years. Is that the average lifespan nowadays? Should I stick with Whirlpol? My parents had a GE that lasted 28 years!

the whrirlpool refer that you own had a bad start relay from the factory , usually white in color, well try a 3n1 relay combo for 1/4 to 1/3 hp compressor, sometimes you can get lucky and that will work.

whirlpool is the only brand I would buy, never never the other brand that you mentioned. they arent like they use to be.
