Washer stops during wash cycle and will not start. Sometimes if you wiggle the timer knob it will restart and run for a few minutes and stop again. The timer does not seem to work in any cycle. After several turns of the knob around the dial it will sometimes start again and will usually go through the remainder of the wash cycle once the timer is below the 6 minute mark on the normal wash cycle. Is this probably a bad timer?

It sounds very much like the timer, I would replace it and see if that fixes your problem.
