Remove the rear panel inside the freezer and check how the evaporator coils are covered with snow. Post the results.

Don't know how well you can tell from the attached picture, but there is a very, very light coating of frost evenly over the entire evaporator. usna98 attached the following image(s):

Followed the instructions you provided and the auto damper mechanism/door is working fine.
At this point, I've sunk a lot of hours into troubleshooting this and replacing parts, so I'm probably going to end up buying a replacement.

I would like to know what clued you in to the sealed system being the problem (low refrigerant). It has been a month since I manually defrosted the evaporator with my wife's blow dryer. I just defrosted again two days ago as the ice buildup was similar to the pic I posted on this thread last month, except for no ice at the top, just collecting on the bottom half. Air flow low to refrigerator and temp elevated. After manual defrosting, refrigerator temp back to normal. This morning I noticed the defrost system was working, as I walked up to the box and heard water dripping and sizzling in the freezer compartment. Water was dripping out and filling the drain pan. Referring to the picture, do you know what the "spoon-like" plastic object is at the bottom of the drain? The only thing I can think of is a damper or isolator, but then again I have kids. Object not in parts diagrams. Thanks, John.

I have a GE side by side refrig Model #: TFX24VRAAD. I noticed last week that the refrig was not cooling, milk soured, refrig temp therometer read between 51-61 degrees, so I replaced the door gasket due to a tear in the gasket in the bottom of the door. I regularly clean the coils, but did notice the motor with the fan blade, the fan blade shaft was loose in that it would in and out. There is no build up of frost or ice on the coils. The freezer is on setting "C" and refrig is on setting 5. We have tried increasing the 5-7.5 and still it is not cooling the refrig. The compressor tank was hot to the touch. The refrig fan continuously runs and doesn't shut off. The ice maker is good, freezer is good, What is going on? Can you help me? Thanks, Mike

Hi john, How many times did you defrost it using a hair dryer since the first post? When the sealed system is low on Freon, very often you can see an ice chunk on top of the evaporator. That's why I recommended to check the pressure in the system. Continuous manual defrosting which help to temporary fix the problem makes it less likely. At this time possible cause of the problem can be: a bad thermistors or a shorter than needed defrost time provided by the electronic control board (inside the control panel). You can check the thermistors by running the refrigerator is the Self diagnosis mode (described in the attached Tech sheet). If the thermistors are good, you may want to replace the control board. It is expensive, but if it would not help, you can return it back to APP. - The thermistor (they are identical) Part number: AP3745265

Hi Mike, If this is the fan next to the compressor and it does not work properly, then it is the culprit. Make sure the nut which is holding the blade is tight. Thanks for the great advice and diagnostic sheet. I can't wait to try it out.
I have only manually defrosted twice with blow dryer, once at original post, and 1 month later when the symptoms returned.
