I am having this issue which sounds the similar as the orginal post.
My frigidaire refrigerator (FRS26W2AWE) starting making a humming sound after a click from around the compressor. Then after about 10-20 seconds it would stop after another click. It seemed to be working fine until last night when everything quit cooling and the freezer thawed out. In looking at it this morning, it trys blowing but with the final click it stops. My question is compressor or the start up relay?
Any Help??

Hello Do the test above. It sounds like the starter is bad on the unit. Hope this helps.

How do I check the compressor? Also, what starter kit for my unit?

Hello. The test for the compressor is listed at the top of this post. As for the correct starter, based on the model number you provided, below is the correct start relay. Hope this helps.

The Overload/Relay Switch has three female that plugs into the three male compressor attached pins.

I have the exact same problem with a Frigidaire Side by side. I ordered and replaced the Starter based on this discussion. The unit worked all evening, but this morning the click and buzz is back. Obviously not the Start/Overload switch on the compressor.

Compressor output temp is hot but not extreme, and the fridge and freezer sections maintain good temperatures. Plenty of voltage going to the refrigerator (124 Volts).

Would changing the CAPACITOR help the compressor to start (and stop the Start/Overload from buzzing), or does this sound like a Compressor problem?

Thanks in advance!

Hello WCD. It sounds like you may have a bad compressor on this one. If you replaced the starter and the unit worked, then as the pressure built, on restart, clicking returns, then the compressor is bad on the unit. Hope this helps.

Hello, I have an MTB1950GRW with the same problem as the original poster. Mine quit cooling and freezing a couple of days ago, the light and fans all worked and there was a clicking sound coming from compressor area, however today when I plugged it back in I had nothing but a light, no fans and no clicking noise. Please help

Hello. The unit may be in the defrost cycle. Try turning the timer and see if the unit then tries to start. If so, you will need to do the above test and determine if the compressor is bad or the start relay.

Thank you so much!! While waiting for an answer I went ahead and replaced both the start device and the run capacitor and still the unit would not start, I was ready to decide it was a bad compressor when I remembered posting here, so I came back and found your reply to my posting and yes when I turned the defrost timer the unit started right up! Thank you again, you were a great help.
