Sounds like a problem with the door switch, double check it to make sure it mounted and wired correctly.
May sound silly, but did you re connect the power to the dishwasher after replacing the switch?

When you said that you replaced the door latch I was thinking you were talking about this part. WHIRLPOOL Door Latch Assembly, part number: AP4113223If so there are two door switches on it, did you take note how the wires were connect before you removed them? If so check check your notes and make sure it's wired correctly.

yes, i took mental notes on where those went but maybe i remembered wrong (it happens sometimes to me). i'm going to try and reverse the wires and see what happens. usually there are instructions that come with the parts but not this time. thank you for your help. i'll let you know how this rewiring goes!

If you remove the toe plate at the bottom of the dishwasher you may find a tech sheet that would include the wiring diagram.

Did the dishwasher run before you decided to replace the door switch?
