The fridge will not automatically kick on. Sometimes I can make it turn on by manually turning the temp guage to off, then on again. When it does decide to start, it will only run for a few seconds and shut off.
What part or parts should I be checking?

First check to make sure all the electrical connections are tight. it sounds like there is a loose connection, or a bad switch.
