Anyone know what might cause a hardly used 2 1/2 year old Fridgidare microwave to stop working? I don't have the model number with me as the microwave is in another state but it is an over range type. When I set the timer, press start, the light on the inside comes on the timer starts counting down but no microwave is happening.

It could be a few different things. You have to have a simple multimeter and be next to the microwave in order to perform the troubleshooting.

In order to provide most accurate advise we need the complete model number of the microwave and as much information on the problem as possible.

Gene,

The model is FMV156DBB.

Again this unit is two years old and has been used less than 20 times. The light comes on the timer starts counting down but no spinning tray and no microwaving taking place, it's silent.

Anything I should look for that would be obvious?

Thanks for your help.

The first thing I would do is open the control panel and check all door switches for continuity according to the wiring diagram.

Here are the break down diagrams for the Frigidaire microwave Model FMV156DBB

Gene,

I have the control panel door off and can see the door switch. I don't have an ohm meter with me. Can I short the two wires momentarily to see if it starts? Or do you advise against that?

Thanks!

Gene,

There are three door switches on this unit. Can you please confirm that I will need to press the red button on the switchs while checking with the ohm meter? Thanks. Sorry, as you can see I'm green in this area.

Gene,

Thanks for your help. I was able to use a lightbulb and a battery to check continuety on the switches. I found the defective switch, replaced it and the MW works fine now.

I have the same problem with my MW. The light and timer start but no motor sounds and no turntable movement. Thought the door switches would be easy to check, first.

I opened up the control panel, unhooked wires on all three Door Switches and removed the Latch Hook containing the switches. I took a 9-volt battery and used a multi meter to test each switch. I get voltage on all three.

Unless I didn't do it right, it seems the door switches are fine.
 What should a test next?

Position #, Part #, & Description from the manual
37 5304440289 Latch Hook
8 # 5304440026 Switch, sec. interlock, door
9 # 5304440027 Switch Kit, monitor, with CT fuse
