I have a GE frig 8 1/2 yrs old that won't stay cold. It's barely above ambient temp. I have vaccumed underneath and cleared out excess ice inside. Any other options? Is it likely to be an expensive compressor problem requiring replacement? I don't want to put in a lot of $ on repair of an old machine if its at the end of its life expectancy. Thanks:o

It sounds like your compressor is not running. You could have a bad overload and relay, which is mounted on the compressor, or a bad compressor, or you might want to be sure the condenser fan motor is running on the side of the compressor. Tom ApplianceEducator.com

Hi thanks
A fan in back is running, I assume it is the condensor fan. So, assuming it is the compressor itself or the overload/relay, are we looking at 200-300 to fix? California prices, they charge $75 to just give you the estimate.
