I am replacing the heating element in my Kenmore Electric dryer. Since I have to wait for the element to arrive, I decided to clean out the lint chute & vent pipes since it looks like they have a fair amount of lint build up. The prolem is I can't get the lint chute out.

I removed the four screws and the chute will move freely but it won't come out of the bottom or the top. I have not tried any excess force for fear of breaking something. How does it come out ?

Also, there is a small heating resistor on the t-stat on the blower housing. The resistor is open. What does this do and is it necessary? Should I replace it?

Thanks for the help.

Make sure you also remove the two screws under the lint screen door. Then, with some side to side wiggling, the chute should come out from the back. It is sometimes necessary to tilt the machine a little toward the front to make clearance for the chute to come all the way out.

I did remove the two screws on the lint screen. I laid the dryer on it's side to allow the chute to come out the bottom.

I will use a little more elbow grease this time. Maybe I wasn't pulling hard enough.

Anybody know anything about the heater resistor?
