Freezer frosts up. every few days when the door is opened it's like fog comes out and collects on everything. food is frozen OK. Replaced the door gasket which didn't help. I'm wondering if there is a drain tube that is clogged/frozen. ? Tonight I will turn the unit off and completly defrost the unit by leaving the door open with a fan blowing into it.

Before you do that: What you describe is a classic symptom of a defrost problem. Before you unplug the uni, check to see if the evaporator fan (That's the fan inside the freezer compartment) is running.

It happens every few days, Like when it is defrosting".

Have you checked to see if the ice dispenser flap is completely closing?

The "flap" is the door in the ice dispenser chute that opens to let ice out and closes after the ice comes out. They are frequently a source of warm air leaking into the freezer.

Plugged the unit in and it is cooling. There is now water in the drain pan so I know the the drain tube is not plugged. Should know in a few days if this continues. TAA

Slowly the frost is building up on the items in the freezer and ice collecting on the surfaces.
Review: replaced the door gasket, unplugged the unit overnight and the drain pan filled with water so we know the drain tube is not plugged. One unusal thing has been happening the past few months, a loud snap/cracking sound ocassionally comes from the refirigator, doesn't happen to often, loud enough so we hear it from other rooms. The ice maker is an internal unit so there is no flap to stick open. It has to be something with the automatic defrost, but what ?

Would it be pracitcal to disable the automatic defrost? I have a wiring diagram. Or would I have to take the whole unit apart to do it ?
