My Whirlpool duet fills with water when not in use. I know it could be the water inlet valve, but if I unplug the machine it does not fill with water which leads me to believe it's the water level pressure switch.

Any thoughts?

Well that is unusual. It could either be the water level switch or the control unit. try replacing the water level switch, but I think in the end it will be the control unit.
