When I push in control dial the dryer does not start, but I can hear the timer come on. The door is closed and the open/close button seems to work fine (the light comes on). A couple days prior to this, the dryer would not shut off. I could start the dryer and it would run fine through the "more dry", then get stuck while in "less dry", then never shutting off until manually moving the dial. Do you have any suggestions? Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

I disconnected the thermo fuse and temperarily hard wired the connectors together and the dryer started .:) So now I just have to replace the thermo fuse (a $4 part).

Per the manufacturer instructions, if the thermal fuse has blown, the cycling thermostat (on the blower housing) has to be replaced too. Also I would recommend to clean the exhaust line and the air ducts inside the dryer. - The part number for the cycling thermostat is AP3831088 Here are the break down diagrams for the Maytag dryer Model MDG308DAWWGene.
