Gene,

I searched for answers, but nothing is coming up with my exact issue. I'm getting the igniter to glow, but after the dryer runs for a few minutes the flame kicks off. If I wait a couple hours I can start it again, but get the same results. Would this have anything to do with my cycling thermostat and/or thermal fuse? I'm guessing the flame sensor still works since I can get a flame most of the time.

I have a Whirlpool LGR5636EQ2 - any help would be MUCH appreciated!!!

Jeff

Jeff,

In order to maintain the proper and constant temperature inside the dryer the flame should cycle ON and OFF.

If the flame does not light any time when the igniter glows then the problem is a bad gas valve coils.

Part number: AP3094251

Thanks for the reply, Gene. I tested the coils and have continuity there. The flame will light occasionally. The thermal fuse, however, had zero continuity. I'm picking one up today.

This is a great forum! Thanks for all your help!

The continuity test does not prove they are good. It is very common issue when the coils start acting up under the heat stress.

If the thermal fuse is bad then the igniter will never glow.

So, my advice is to replace the coils.

Should I ignore the zero continuity on the thermal fuse since I'm getting a flame occasionally and just replace the coils?

Thanks again!

0 Ohms resistance as the continuity test result is good. It means there is continuity. Negative result is everything more than zero.
