First thing to check, is the dryer level ? especially front to back.

Depending on the model, you may be able to open the lower front panel, and check for soot in the burner chamber, discoloration doesn't count.

What kind of noise does the dryer make, squeeling, rumbling, etc. and from where, front,back,top,bottom, etc.

Make sure you never fill the dryer more than 1/2 full with a wet load of clothes. You'll be a lot more efficient, and happier with the results.

What do the spots look like, in most cases, if articles are getting pinched between the drum and bulkhead, the marks look like a large, dark pencil mark, not a spot.

That could explain it.

Are you sure it was not converted to LP gas by the previous owner, or by the dealer when you purchased the dryer ?

If you are on LP gas and operating on Nat gas settings, you'll have an improper burn, and have lots of soot and carbon in the unit.

You may want to order and install the LP Conversion kit, just to be sure.

You didn't turn the gas supply off or anything like that, yet ?

We're going to need to observe the ignition procedure, so we have a better idea of what's happenning.

There's two(2) ways to go, You'll need to be careful, either way.

1.) Remove the 1 X1 inch square plastic cover attached to the front panel.
2.) Start the dryer in a heat cycle, preferably on the highest heat setting.
3.) Using the peep hole and listenning closely,
a, You should hear a click, when the dryer is started.
b, In a few seconds, you should see the igniter start to glow, orange.
c, After 20 to 30 seconds of glow, you'll hear another click, the igniter
glow will start to fade, and the burner gas should ignite and produce a
flame.

You can do the same test, once you remove the front panel, drum, etc. and bypass the door switch, to make the unit operable.

I think we have a coincidental, failure.

Let us know what you observe, and we can get you going from there.

OK then,

You'll need to check the glow bar igniter,
to see if it is cracked or broken, with a multi meter, you should read 50 to 500 ohms resistance across the two(2) wires of the igniter.
