It started only in the final stage after wash. I inspected the unit for integraty seemed to be intact. After placing on side and lubricating belt pully area it seemed to sovle problem for a week or two. Now even with no load the drumb spins vioalantly like a top banging all sides. I thought if the spring were week I could test it by holding on with top down and place in spin cycle. The action is so ruff I can not even hold it steady with two hands. new spring will not cure this. Is there a micoswitch for equaling out spin imbalance or could it be something else? Please advise.

Pull front cover off and look for white shavings on the washer bottom.

None. No plasctic scrappings or powder. I seem to be able to use the unit but onlt with small loads. Even at that it "ticks" the sides of the box. All else seems normal.

I assume this is an Atlantis top loader. If so, does the tub lean to one side, maybe you have a busted spring.
