Sounds exactly like my problem. A bad solenoid. Follow the links posted Above for directions.

I just ordered a new valve assembly to replace the valve, am I wrong in doing so? Should I be replacing the potentiamoter? Also, the indicator light for temperature is very dim, any suggestions?

Jim,

What is the complete model number of the range?

Can you be more specific on the problem?

Gene.

Gene,
Thanks for the help, the model number of the Thermador gas/electric range is RDSS30RS. The right front burner does not work, the igniter is working but there is no gas entering the burner. The second problem is that the panel light which indicates temperature is very dim.
The information on the no gas problem is that it could be the valve or the potentiometer. I have ordered both.
About the dim light, I understand that Thermador does not make this part any longer, I googled the part number 486752 and found replacement parts on line at a cost of $429 to replace. I may stay with the dim light until we can no longer see it. Hope this helps. Jim

Jim,

The problem can be a bad solenoid (#12 on the diagram) as well.

Here are the breakdown diagrams and Replacement parts for THERMADOR RDSS30 S/N 9707 & UP | AppliancePartsPros.com

The front XLO works fine as are the other 2 regular burners. I was looking at the solenoid part #AP2828839 as the culprit that needs to be changed. I have not tested the poteniometer as I have no idea where it is and how to access it. Any help or suggestions are much appreciated. Thanks

Hi Gene, just bumping this to the top to see if you can help me diagnose my problem. Thanks

Bill2 replied on your post from 5/27 regarding possible problem with the solenoid. Did you test it?

Hi Gene,

I didn't notice notice Bill's response as it was camouflaged with the ads :)

I posted the same question on a new post and Joe (from APP) recommmended that it may be a potentiometer that needs to be replaced.

I was able to figure out how to get to the potentiometer.

After removing the potentiometer and swapping them, the XLO burner that was malfunctioning still DOES NOT light. I can see and hear the ignitor trying to start the burner but I still do not hear any gas coming thru.

The other XLO burner that is working continues to work fine AFTER the swapping of the potentiometer.

I'm thinking that I have a bad solenoid and need to replace that.

I went ahead and ordered a new solenoid with part #AP2828839. My range model # is PRG364GDUS. Hopefully that's the correct one :)
Thanks everyone for your help :)I will update forum after the swap with results.

This is the correct part number for the solenoid and hopefully it will fix the problem, but what makes me unsure that you did not preform the troubleshooting (http://forum.appliancepartspros...ne-burner.html#post54819) before ordering the part because the other cause of such problem can be a bad simmer control.

Gene,

Can you help point out to me where the simmer controller is on the diagram of this range model as I am a bit confused?

I did see the flow chart from previous post but did not know where to look for the simmer controller.

Thanks
