When I pull out the start control knob, nothing happens. Has power, etc. Just worked one time and the next time it didn't.

The first thing that normally happens is water fill. Do you hear a faint hum, or nothing at all, when you start the machine?

Thanks for your response. No, there is nothing, no sound, just nothing. Can our washer be saved?

It surely can be saved. The cause of the problem has to be discovered and remedied. Plug a lamp into the outlet the machine's plugged into. Does it work? If not, check the breaker for that outlet. If it does, you may need to replace the timer.
