My Kenmore washer/dryer is driving me nuts! The dryer is fine. The problem is the washer. It performs through all cycles (heavy, permanent press, delicate) but at the final spin about 25% of the water remains in the tub. Today I had to take out the wet clothes and wring them manually. After that I ran the rinse and spin cycles 4 times on permanent press and the water finally disappeared.

I bought the unit used (only 6 months old) in late 1999 from a neighbor who was moving to a place already equipped with W/D. Unfortunately the young man had misplaced the user manual/specs and I have tried through SEARS and various other places to find one, but nobody recognizes the model #. I had read on a different web-site that the prefix 110. in the model # indicates that it was manufactured by Whirlpool and that the model is equal to LTE6234D or Kenmore 98702. But after calling Kenmore I was told that is not true. Any suggestions?

There are several obstacles:

  • My laundry/kitchen storage room is very narrow and leaves almost no space for getting to the hoses. If the unit has to be moved forward out of it's space it would mean emptying out the storage shelf unit to make it possible. I am an elderly, disabled person and couldn't possibly manage to do that.
  • I have no idea how to remove the front panel to have a look at the pump (if that is actually where the pump is located). Don't see any screws on the bottom or on the sides. Then again, how could it be the pump if it does get rid of about 75% of the water during spin cycle?
Any help would be highly appreciated. Thank you!

Check for a kinked or restricted drain its on a timed drain and if the pump is only moving 1/2 the volume it runs out of time before its all pumped out. You probably have a thin twin or comparable to anyway.... its a direct drive whirlpool

Thank you for your reply, but not being of much technical knowledge and not being in posession of the original user manual, how would I be able to "guote: check for a 'kinked or restricted drain its on a timed drain and if the pump is only moving 1/2 the volume it runs out of time before its all pumped out. You probably have a thin twin or comparable to anyway.... its a direct drive whirlpool".

Sorry for being such an idiot. Please tell me how I check this. And thank you for confirming that it is after all a Whirlpool made unit on behalf of Kenmore, although Kenmore told me differently.

One extra piece of information: Two week ago I washed a bathmath without knowing that the rubber backing had cracked and was peeling pieces off the backing. Could that have caused a clod, and if so, how can I clear it up?

Your help is much appreciated.

Well there ya go The latex backed rugs will get ya everytime lol you're gonna have to try and get to the drain hose which is on the back of the machine Get as much water out of the machine as you can because whern you remove the 1 3/4 in hose from the back you'll have water everywhere start with the drain hose see if its plugged

Once more thanks for your reply. Being disabled because of two hip fractures I can neither bend, squat, push or pull anything heavy and it would not be possible for me to get to the back of the unit. Is there any kind of cleaner (obviously not regular Drano as it is more than likely too harsh) that could help dissolve such a clog?

We have no maintenance man. This is a private home. Unfortunately all our friends (we have no family here) have left this arm-pit of the world called S. Florida. At least they had the sense to get out while the going was good. At this point my aisling 70 years old husband does not have the power to pull the storage shelves out of the laundry/kitchen storage room. We are on a very limited income between minimun SS and Disability and have to pay for everything that needs to be done in house and yard. After being hit with three major hurricanes in less than two years that caused huge damages all our savings are gone - the mandatory storm deductions on home-owners insurance cleaned us out.

Right now we're looking at washer not working right, icemaker on the frizz, ceiling fan (cathedral ceiling) crashed to the floor after the lower part of the down-rod dislocated and the fan was totally destroyed. I am at the end of my rope. Lowes will not allow their installers to do any work above 10' off the ground and the hook-up for a new fan is about 13-14' off the ground. Estate (Whirlpool) is not responding to my communications in termes of the fridge asking for cost of a new 'Eskimo' and providing me with the name of a certified repair outfit.

So I'm really in a bind here and desperately looking for whatever savings that I can accomplish on my own.

Do you think that if I ran hot water with white vinegar and baking powder through a cycle that it might get rid of the remaining clod?

Sorry to lay that on you.

You're going to have to find a strong young man and bake him some cookies or something. What about your church family? A neighborhood "fix-it" man?

Unfortunately my husband and I are of different religions and do not attend church. None of the 'friendly' neighbors can do this job. So what your're telling me is that I am stuck with SEARS, who I hate to no end since they totally bungled a $9K window replacement, and failed to make good on the damages resulting thereof? I'll die before giving them one more of my hard earned dollars.

Anybody have another solution? Running the machine empty on rinse and spin empties the machine, but suds still enters the rince cycle and I can't get rid of it. I have newer used powder detergent.
Please help me here.
Thank you!
