The dryer won't shutoff unless I open the door. I alreadt replaced the control knob and that didn't fix it. What part do I need? Any help would be appreciated.

Talbany,

Does the timer advance in the timed dry setting, does it stop when the indicator reaches the OFF position on the panel ?

Is the start switch stuck, in the down position ?

Does the dryer start and run, when you close the door ?

This information will give us a better idea of where to start,so we can assist you properly.

Thanx for reply Joe,
Let me answer your questions. Yes the timer advances, No the start button is not stuck in. And yes the dryer goes on and off when you open and close the door.

No the start button is not stuck.

Yes the timer moves the way it should.

And the dryer goes on and off when I open and close the door.

OK, then.

We have 1 of 2 problems,

Either a stuck contact on the motor circuit in the timer,


Part number: AP4042468
Part number: AP4042468


Or a stuck contact in the motor,(most likely problem).

Part number: AP4042922

Do you have access to a multimeter, so we can check the circuits and wires ?

If you wish, order and replace the motor first, it's the more likely problem, based on the post.

I have one of those meters but I realy don't know how to use it. Also, I already ordered the timer and installed it. It didn't fix the problem, so I sent it back. It must be the motor?

I guess you meant to say, you replaced the timer, when you said you already replaced the control knob.

Here's a post from our repair forum, to help you out with using the multimeter you have, it might come in handy.

Your not going to believe this. I pulled my dryer away from the wall to figure out how to get to the motor and do the continuity test and when I looked at the back of the dryer it seemed like I would have to take the whole dryer apart. So I thought I would do it the next day because of the complexity of the job. So I pushed it back against the wall and just for the hell of it, I tried to run it and see if it would work, and sure enough, it's working again! I don't know why, but It's good with me. Or do you think it will break again?

Talbany,

It's happenned before, a lot, You probably pushed it too far back, or at an angle and restricted the flex vent, just enough to create a problem.But you said you tested it with the vent off, and the problem remained, correct ?

If it's a "sticky" thermostat or loose connection, it'll happen again, soon.

No I didn't check it with the vent off. All I did was replace the timer module and it still had the problem. I put the old one back on and got in touch with you. Then like I said, when I pulled it away from the wall to take it apart to put a new motor in, and noticed it was a big job, I pushed it back against the wall, then it was working fine. You think the problem might be from a restricted vent?
