I have a hotpoint HSS25IFMBWW. I have tried to troubleshoot the defrost heater but I cannot find the defrost timer on the diagram. Pretty sure it is not defrosting. The bottom half of the freezer cooling coil is frosty-snow like. the top half is a solid block of Ice. I tried to defrost it the best I could but I need to know if my refrigerator has the timer that I can try to adjust to test the heater. I am pretty sure the heater is not working but I need to figure out which part to replace. Also, the top damper on the refrigerator side has a faulty motor. The flap, if it opens, opens very slowly and not entirely. And the ice door solenoid also sticks halfway open often and looks very rusty but I cannot figure out how to get the Ice despenser apart to replace it. Thanks very much for any help.

bjohnson, There is no defrost timer in your refrigerator. It operates by the main control board (#801 on the break down diagram). You can find the complete troubleshooting instructions on page 3 in this thread. Lets do this first and then we'll proceed with another problems. I checked the resistance and it is at 22. Looks like a bad board. I checked the heater and thermostat and they are ok.
On an interesting note...In the process of moving the refrig back a griddle fell off the top and landed on the cord (thank goodness it was unplugged) causing an acute failure in electron transportation (cord was cut). Luckily that was an easy fix...I keep parts like that around just in case. Thanks for the help on troubleshooting the board.

Ezel,
It should stay "on" until the defrost thermostat would not open the circuit. Another word, it works by the temperature, not the time.

I turned the temp control all the way down. Fridge temp only dropped two degrees. Is it time for a new fridge? It is a 1986.
