Dishwasher started making "whining/groaning" sounds and then quit. Maybe a pump? Are there any diagnostics I can do to find out which part failed?

Jefro,

When does this noise occurr, wash cycle or drain cycle ?
That will help determine which pump has a problem.

Here is the control panel key sequence to enter the diagnostic/test mode, the unit should run a short cycle and activate all the components, in a matter of a few minutes, and should allow you to determine where the problem lies.

If the above key sequence is entered with the dishwasher in Standby(off), the Diagnostics Cycle is started. The Diagnostics Cycle can be rapid-advanced, interval by interval, by pressing the Pots&Pans/Heavy or Anti-Bacteria/Cookware cycle key.
1) HIGH TEMP SCRUB
(POWER SCOUR)
(HIGH TEMP SCOUR)

2) AIR DRY
(NO HEAT DRY)
(ENERGY SAVER DRY)

3) HIGH TEMP SCRUB
POWER SCOUR)
(HIGH TEMP SCOUR)

4) AIR DRY
(NO HEAT DRY)

(ENERGY SAVER DRY)

Good Luck,
:) :) :)

The noise was during the wash cycle...now the machine turns on to start the cycle but no water comes in and there is water pooled inside.

ran the diagnostics sequence. when the "rinse" light is on it makes a sound like a n electric device is activated but not running...when "normal" light is on you can hear a motor running but no water sounds...the water that had pooled inside did pump back to the sink.

Jefro,

You have a bad fill valve, or low water pressure to the dishwasher.

Part number: AP3178610
Part number: AP3178610

Sounds like everything else is working proper.

Good Luck,
