My Whirlpool washer starts to fill, but stops. This is both at the start and during the rinse. Funny thing is, if I release the pressure (by loosening the hose and letting the water run out), it will start filling again when I turn it on. A friend said maybe it is the selinoid (?), but that part is not listed. Any help?

The screans in the hoses or the screans in the water valve could be clogged, take the hoses off the machine, and then turn the water on, and make sure the water is coming through the hoses. Then where you took the hoses off the machine, in side the valve where you attach the hoses is a screan in there. Sometimes they get clogged. If all is well the replace the water valve. Thanks, Tom, but I did check the screens after searching on the internet for a possible problems. The screen was a little dirty, but it did not correct the problem. I'll check the price of the water valve. I'm a very handy women, is it hard to take out and put a new one in??

I ordered the part - water valve. It should come in a few days. Any suggestions on where to find instructions on how to replace it? I haven't tried to take the back off the washer yet..........is it simple..........

No, the back does not come off, there is either a phillips head screw to flip back the control panel in the front, left and right corner of the front panel, or behind the control panel on the right and left side, about 6 inches from the top to take out, and then pop out the brass clips, on the front side of the top, and then take unhook the molex plug, and the remove the cabinet, and then you can get to the valve. Whoa - saved me a lot of work/frustration. I looked where you said, and you were right. Thanks a lot. It's not hard to get out! Thanks for the help, Tom, and saving me $$$$. Hope it works when the part comes.

Well, Tom, it turns out I ordered the part from Appliance Part Pros and received it in one day. WOW!!! I successfully accessed the valve and easily replaced it. I was soooooooo happy until the cold water shutoff when the tub was half full during the first trial load. "$*&*^!#" was muttered under my breath. I then took the scientific method approach and solved the problem by switching the hot and cold hoses.........sure enough the hot stopped. Wow.........I then read the tags attached to the real nice reinforced shiney new hoses and read that they were automatic shutoff hoses.
I looked up the manufacturer's instructions on the internet and I could have written it:
Important: Removing the faucet aerator or flow restrictor may cause the FloodSafe™ to activate shutting off flow to the faucet.
Resetting FloodSafe™
Resetting FloodSafe™ connectors if water flow has been stopped is easy.
Before proceeding, check for damage or rupture to the hose. Do not reactivate if a leak is evident.
To reactivate flow of water to the fixture:
[LIST=1]
Close the shutoff valve to shut the water supply to the FloodSafe™ connector. Disconnect the FloodSafe™ at the shutoff valve. This will automatically reset the FloodSafe™ device.
Reconnect the FloodSafe™ according to installation instructions and turn on water supply to full open position. Check for leaks.[/LIST]Either someone removed the aerator/flow restrictor on the valve to the washer or I have a defective hose. Want to guess?

I am/was having the same problem with my dishwasher not filling with water. After having a repair guy over, who suggested replacing the water fill valve, we discovered the FloodSafe valve on the inlet hose was shutting off, but now I can't figure out why...:(
We are having some flow issues from our hot water heater due to a degrading dip tube (we think), but that shoud reduce (not increase) the h2o pressure, no? our dishwasher inlet hose connects to our hotwater via a valve. Is it possible the hose is defective? (the auto-shutoff connector on the hose that is...it is only about 1 year old).
