We bought our house and it came with an oven but, my oven gets too hot. Too fast. I can bake a cake in 10 min on 200 and the top is black! I want to try to fix this before the holidays. What can I do? :(

What temp is it going to when you set it to 200?
What type of gas, LP or natural?
Is the black a suet?
Do the top burners burn high or are they noisey?

It ois natural gas I guess... I feel stupid I dont know anything about ovens except how to cook...lol. How can I check the temp? I have a sfety lock behind it so it will take some work trying to move it out but if I know what to look for I can do it... I did not get "black suet" ? The top burners work fine.

Use a regular cheap metal oven thermometer, if you don't have one they are a couple of dollars at about any department store.

You said it was black on top.... is the black a flaky substance or just like a chared surface?

Sorry... the cake is already black on top after 10 min. Just burnt like I left it in too long. kind of flaky. The oven is clean looks new actually.

Does the oven flame cycle on & off? What colors are the flames?
If you don't have a thermostat, take a metal pan of water and set the oven at 150 and see if it will boil. Let me know what you see. Most likely this is your problem part number AP4324689

Another thing, not sure where you are located but.....
Did you go thru a real estate company? If so where you asked to sign and given a seller's disclosure? If your state has a seller's disclosure and it hasn't been very long since you bought your house, contact the agent and have them contact the seller if the seller stated that the appliances worked, normally they would be responsible for any repair(in some states).

I also happen to be a licened real estate agent......
