I have an older Kemore Compact refrigerator (6.0 cubic feet Model 91608). The freezer part got loaded with ice and the refrige cut off and I saw some water on the floor. I unplugged and let it slowly defrost over a 10 hour period while at work. Then I plugged it back in and set the control at the #4 setting. The inside light works but the refrige won't start or come on. It won't cool. It has been 24 hours. I tried turning it on and off but it still won't work. Please advise. Thanks for your help. Eric

Hey v2k04, Thanks for the help! I appreciate it! I am not very experienced with refrigerator repair. I looked at the electrical plug that plugs into the compressor (is this the relay?) and visually it looked OK (was not melted). When I did I noticed that the compressor was very hot (it had been plugged into the power for about an hour. I could touch and keep my hand on it, but it was hot. Also, I found the correct model number (126.8916081) for what it is worth. Do you have any suggestions or should I just toss it and get another one?

Those little compressors won't handle much abuse. Like the bigger ones will. You can pull the relay off the terminals of the compressor if its a solid state style you can shake it and if it rattles its bad if its the plunger style where you can see copper wraped around a coil it will rattle. If it is more than 5-8 years old I would by a new one it would be cheaper than having someone come out and fix it or tell you the comressor is shot. You can pick a relay up any appliance parts store for about 25 bucks and see if that fixes it Your comprssor has 3 terminals on it that look like steel pins sticking out of it in a triangle pattern you have the common, Start winding, and run winding when voltage is applied to the start winding it powers it up then drops from the circuit and in a nano second the run winding gets power and it runs well if it cant start it just sits there and gets hot or burns up the windings

Hey v2k04, Thanks for the prompt reply and great advice. I appreciate it! Have a great weekend. I think I will look for a replacement. Someone gave me this one and I have had 2 good years from it. I WILL be sure to not let my next one ice up like this one. What was I thinkin'? Just being lazy I guess. Some of us (me) have to learn the hard way. Eric
