Burning smell coming from the motor (???) under the dishwasher

First, I would not recommend this diswasher to anyone. Bought it new not more than 6 yrs ago. Only after 2 yrs, the normal wash cycle would take more than 2 hours and a half instead of 1 hour and a half.
I had a technician over which told me that it was the heating element.
Secondly, the soap/rinse distributor is also malfunctioning. Rinse is all used in one wash.
And now, well, when I start the cycle, it makes a weird noise and then a burning smell seems to come out from the motor or water pump which is located under the dishwasher.
It seems that I should go and buy a new one although I used this bloody dishwasher 1 to 3 times a month. Would anyone know what could be the problem?

Sounds like you have something down inside the pump (probably the impeller area) causing it to lock up. Nat

Should I change the pump? Unfortunately I live in Montreal Canada, a bit far to call for service :)

I would start tearing into it see if you can see anything. Nat
