If it does not reignite then the problem most likely is a bad gas valve coils.

Thank you! I will order those tonight. The lint screen looks fine, because I have clean it out on every load. How about the thermal fuse? Should I replace that while I am at it?

The thermal fuse has nothing to do with this problem. If this fuse is open then the igniter will never go on.

Gene, I read your reply back on the first post, you said if you replace the thermal fuse you also need to replace the cycling termostat. my thermal fuse has no continuity, the thermostat has continuity between the two big post but nothing between the small ones, is it also bad?
Thanks, Jeff

Jeff,

The point is that the cycling thermostat can be bad even if it pass continuity test because it can read wrong temperature, causing the dryer to overheat.

Replaced the fuse and temp sensor, works just like new. Thanks!
BTW as long as I had the back off I pulled the lint screen housing / fan housing there was a ton of dirt and dog hair in the bottom around the fan. I was not going to because the vent had strong output so ther was no reason to suspect any blockage, but I'm gald I did now.

My turn...

My Maytag dryer is not drying. The Gas Valve Relay (on the microprocessor board) does not energize. I get a diagnostic code of "02" which is "Thermistor Open Sensed". With the wires diconnected what ohm reading should I get across the thermister?

Model #MDG5500AWW
Serial # 42774934AL

Thanks in advance
