You won't need to mess with the brake. That's the component that is spring-loaded. When you replace the thrust beating, pull off the clip and all the appropriate parts will come offf the shaft. The kit goes back together according to the instructions.

The aggrivating part can be the final step of re-installing the clip. With the new parts in place, it is sometimes a little frustrating to get the clip started into the groove on the shaft. I put a little grease on the flat surface of it to help keep it in place; widen the gap using the screwdriver and using pliers, squeeze the clip into place.

Keep the old clip handy, in case the replacement one flies off out of sight

By the way....in the picture, which is the suspect bearing? Is it one of the white pieces? I see a pulley, washers, dust cap, grease, Is the bad bearing in mine a part that is not yet visible?

No need to worry about the spring: It's on the brake, and you won't be messing with it. Just remove the clip and the parts will all come offf the shaft.

The frustrating part comes when it's time to re-install the clip. It doesn't always want to go into place. I help it along by applying a little grease to it. This keeps it relatively in place.

You may need to widen the gap at the groove with your screwdriver, as you squeeze the clip in place with pliers.

Keep the old clip, just in case the new one flies out of sight. Patience, patience, and keep your fingers outta the pinch zone.

OK....Just wanted to say thank you for the help. I already ordered the kit. I know what you mean to use grease just for its' stickiness...holding the clip in place like another hand, so I can work at getting it to pop into the groove. Should work ok...now, hopefully I don't need a new washer. The delivery guys probably would not do too well dragging it through the frozen snow around the house and down the yankee-basement doors to the basement!!! But, 10 years old....it and the matching dryer probably don't owe me anything anymore!
Thanks again!!

....Dave

Hello!! You may not remember, but you helped me with a dryer a while back. Ordered the bearing kit from appliancepartspros.com, and it works!
But...
Shakes like mad!
Nothing new due to the repair. I think this is what might have caused the problem to begin with.
As if the dryer is unevenly loaded, but even with simply 5 tee shirts...It will shake like crazy, and walk forwards. Open the door, and the drum is uneven. Push it even again, and it just goes off again. Only way to get a dry cycle is to sit on it.
Does not do this with water in it...only when spinning. I'll bet it even would do it empty!
Now that I know how to open it, anything to check that would cause this behavior?
Thanks again!
....Dave

I'm confused: You call it a dryer, and talk about a dry cycle; but then you mention water! Are you talking about a vibration problem with your dryer, or your WASHER?

I'm sorry....too early in the morning. It is a washer, and shakes when spinning.

Have yoou noticed a disconnected or broken balance spring? Sometimes, a worn or broken snubber will also cause vibration problems. Following these is an unstable or unlevel machine, due to a soft floor or maladjusted feet.

Where can I find the balance spring, and snubber? I can remove the front and tip it over a bit to look underneath again.

The Suspension springs (there are 6 of them) attach the outer tub assembly to the machine base. You should be able to see them as soon as you remove the front cabinet panel.
Part number: AP4024545
Part number: AP4024545

The snubber goes between the brake assembly and the machine base.
If it is worn badly enough, you will often see shavings or fragments of shredded nylon.
