The parts site shows two different type switches, the one you see and another white one I mentioned.
If the switches click when the lid is closed, you probably have other problems.
You will need a meter to find the problem, just replacing the switch is probably a waist of money.
To test the switches, you could refer to the schematic and short them out.
You can also go to the timer, remove the cover, and check for burnt contacts. If bad, order it here, AP4026297

ok, checked continuity of lid and safety switches. ok. readjusted switches . washer filled and started to hum. opened lid and turned tub, closed lid and it agitated through cycle, then started to hum again. can't get it to do anything but hum, no cycles of any kind.

Did you check the timer contacts? Maytag timers have one main power contact that tends to fail. With the schematic and meter, you should be able to verify.

Not to tread jack but since I have the same machine and am having similar symtoms I hope I can jump in here. I replaced the lid switch but the machine only fills then just sits. No timer movement. Timer replaced about 5 years ago. Nothing happens when I turn the timer except the water fills and the panel turns off or on.

Any ideas?

Thanks,

JB
