No, I'm afraid that's not a good sign.

If you bought the unit new find your warranty papers & receipt. You might get luck if it's the compressor for certain, doubtful.....but God works in mysterious ways.....and it still be under warranty. If it's the control board or other electricals it wouldn't be.....

No, we bought it off of Craig's List when we moved from NC to CA. The info where the model number is says it's 2003. Not so old for this, but what do I know. Should we have it repaired or will that be too expensive to make the effort and it's best to buy another? We'd appreciate any guidance.

thanks!

honestly I would have a tech look at it.....if in Orange county call Gene! If it's the compressor I would say no, but it could be the control board. Have it checked by a tech, a whirlpool tech would be best since this unit was made by whirlpool. How long have you had it?

Unfortunately, we're in Glendale, a suburb of LA, but I'll call to see if they come this far. I think we're 45-60 min from Orange Co, depending where he is and what time of day - I miss North Carolina!
We've only had it 1 1/2 yrs., bought it from a couple who were re-doing a kitchen in stainless steel.

You're welcome. Hopefully you can get it fixed economically and it's not the compressor....if you haven't already I'd unplug it until a tech can get there.
