I have a sub zero 532 - refrig will not get cold. I realize the compresser will not stay on. It kicks on for about 3 seconds and turns off. A few minutes later it does the same thing again. Any advice will be helpful. I am trying to decide if it pays to have the unit repaired /or compressor replaced?
Thanks in advance, Mac

I tried bypassing the thermostat. Problem continued but after a while the compressor seems to run continuosly. Wld a new thermostat fix this or is it something more involved that caused the compressor to shut down so quick? Thanks

Hi Mac,

How hot is the compressor? Very likely the condenser coil is full of lint, causing the compressor to overheat. Also make sure the fan next to the condenser is running. Turn the refrigerator "off", clean the condenser and turn the refrigerator "on" after the compressor cooled down. Hopefully the compressor is not damaged yet.

This refrigerator is very expensive and if it is in good shape then it's worth any repairs.

Thanks for the reply. Compressor is hot but not that hot that it cant be touched. After i bypassed the thermostat, the compressor seems to run continuoslly. Wld a new thermostat fix this or do u think it was something more involved that was causing the compressor to shut down so quickly? Thanks again.

This is normal with the bypassed thermostat.

You found at least one problem (bad thermostat) and you can not proceed further until you'll replace it.
