Started having intermittent heating of food problems. Wife says she hears on-and-off "insect" noise from the M/W. I can't hear it due to ears ringing. I'm thinking the magnetron is going out. Can you diagnose from the above info? If it is the magnetron does need replacing, is there any other parts that should be replaced at the same time?

Does it take much longer time to heat up the same amount of water?

It seems to work fine for heating water (cup of tea in the morning) but last night it took about a minute to melt some butter that normally only takes about 15 seconds.

Did you set the Power level other than 100% when you melt butter?

Can you describe more detailed how did you (or your wife) do it?

No, left it at full power to melt the butter. This moring it took 2.5 minutes to reheat some oatmeal that normally takes about 1 minute. I think I will pry off the top circle plate to see if the stirrer is working.I assume I can slide a putty knife between it and the top to pop it loose (after unplugging the M/W of course). Any thoughts? Regarding melting the butter, it's placed in a ceramic bowl placed on one side of the rotating plate to ensure that it moves around in a large circle.

There is another simple way to see how the stirrer works. Just do one pack of pop corn. If it will burn at one spot then there is a stirrer problem.

It seems to heat just water the same as before (i.e. about 2.5 min for coffee mug size). Food takes forever. I am not using any of the "sense" functions for heating, just the timer.

Possible the magnetron is dying, but it is very strange why the heating time for water did not increase.

That is bothering me as well. This model does use an inverter for the magnetron. However, as my wife had described "insect" like noise insome cases, I'm thinking about replaceing the magnetron and capacitor. If that doesn't fix then the inveerter would be next. I appreciate your assistaance with troubleshooting, Gene!
